hi Gwen, I am new on tumblr and wondered: I look for a theme for multiple authors, with a search button and where its easy to make categories in, and possible to link to social media like etc? or is this something that is easy in every theme? Are there themes you can recommend? I like the minimalist, juneau, rank&file but ofcourse there are many more options than that and I could see in my research. thank you and hope to hear from you. ~ Desiree

Hi Desiree - if you’re new to tumblr and themes, one idea might be to look at other people’s tumblrs that you like and ask what they’re using. Most themes have links to social media, and are easy to setup and customize.

Minimalist is free, while Rank & File or Juneau are $49 each. If you’re asking for suggestions, I’d start out with something free to help you figure out what you want in a theme. Keep trying free themes until you find one you really enjoy and works with your content (long written posts vs lots of pictures).

Hope that helps! » gwen

5 MOOCs Teachers Should Take As Students

  1. Globalizing Higher Education and Research for the ‘Knowledge Economy’
  2. More than a High Score: Videogames and learning
  3. Social Psychology
  4. Aboriginal Worldviews and Education
  5. E-Learning and Digital Cultures

I’ve signed up for 3!

I’m taking the one on Gamification (starts Monday).

It’d be cool if there were a Tumblr Teacher Cohort that went ahead and did this together *coughcoughcough*

That would be sweet. I’m in for 2, 3, and 5. 4 wasn’t available.

Hi Gwen, Love your Tumblr. Is it easy to make the slideshow? I would like to have that for my tumbler, but I have no knowledge of HTML (or very limited). I understand if you don't have time to answer this. Also, what template are you using? Your page is beautiful and full of insights. Thanks for creating it! Pilar Munday

Wow, thank you so much Pilar! I really like the idea of your tumblr too - pictures to help practice Español! The slideshow would let your viewers practice much easier - glad you asked.

You can add a slideshow to your tumblr pretty easily - here are the instructions (if you run into trouble, message me):

  1. View the source code of that slideshow and copy it. It’ll work as-is for any Tumblr without any changes.

  2. Head to the Customize Theme area and add a new page.

  3. Select Custom Layout, give it a url, decide if you want to display a link (if your theme supports it), and…

  4. Paste the source code in the form and enjoy.

I’m using the Swell template by Style Hatch, but I’d recommend any of their templates. They’re nice looking, easy to customize, and their support is helpful and friendly. ¡Buena suerte!

Why is there nothing but spam on the #education everything tag?

A lot of it is inappropriate.

There’s a problem, Tumblr!

Seconded. We’re talking HUNDREDS of spam posts, all with the same text and link.

This actually really annoys me because I genuinely have tried to become part of the #education tag a few times, with…

This is the limitation of editing any tumblr tag.

I’ve emailed tumblr to report the spam on the everything area, but I’m not sure what they can do. For now I’m avoiding that area.
